Someone is watching!

You can specify Respondus Monitor for use with any Canvas or Blackboard quiz. First create the quiz, then specify Respondus Monitor in the Respondus options.

Recommendations

  • Add information to your syllabus about using Respondus Monitor.
  • Require that students first take a low-stakes practice quiz using Respondus. This ensures their computer and other devices are properly set up to use Respondus Monitor.
  • Inform students that extra time is required to complete the Respondus Monitor setup.

Create and Deploy the Test in Blackboard

Before setting up Respondus Monitor, create and deploy the quiz to Blackboard.

Read this on Reading Day!!!

Which is August 14, 2020!

The only Blackboard content that was migrated to Canvas was Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 courses that you were listed as an instructor.  There are shells for Spring 2020, Summer 2020 and Fall 2020 in which you can import content (just as in BB you had to copy content from one semester to the next).  Additionally if you taught a course and do not have a Canvas shell you will need to export/archive it’s content. There are sandbox courses on everyone’s Canvas site, you can import the content into one of these courses.

Instructions for importing/archiving your Blackboard Course can be found here

Tagging onto last week’s post

About engaging students with video polling, quizzing and commenting extends to current events.  Anyone remember H1N1 virus, well a posting done on this blog in September 2009 addresses being prepared.  With Blackboard and Canvas content can be delivered and Mediasite Desktop Recorder and Canvas Studio are ways to record lectures, give updates and keep everyone informed.

Here is a link to a Mediasite Webinar on Friday to Optimize your Plan

Additionally since next week is Spring Break if you are not comfortable with desktop recording or need to use devices such as document camera, most of the classrooms here at HSB will be available to do recordings.

One week!

And exams are done and fall semester will be put to rest.  Review what worked, what didn’t and if take inventory of your Blackboard course as fall semester 2020 it will be in Canvas.  If you use Blackboard grade book you may want to download it before finalizing and/or changing grades, remember to save to your pirate drive and not to your local machine.  To download your grades, click work offline and download.  It will be an xml file which will open in Excel, remember to save as Excel file.  Using Canvas?  Click here for how to do it in Canvas.

And it may be a new LMS on the horizon.  Please take time to attend one of the LMS Spring Demonstrations.  They will be held both on East and West Campus, and if you haven’t check out the new student center here is a great excuse.

“ECU is undertaking a review of our current and future learning management system (LMS) needs to determine next steps as our LMS hardware requires replacing in the next two years. The timing of this hardware replacement combined with significant changes in the LMS market make this an opportune time to evaluate LMS options to determine which system will best meet our needs.

The LMS (Learning Management System) is a critical tool in teaching and learning.
