Reading PowerPoint notes while Presenting in Class

This is a question I get asked frequently how can I use Presenter View in PowerPoint to read my notes in the classroom.  It’s easy if you bring your Mac just connect with the Ring of Power connectors and use presenter view.  But it doesn’t work that way if you are using the classroom desktop, as the screen is not considered a 2nd monitor!

Here’s a tip that may work for those who have IPads.  Try Microsoft Office across Devices.

Project, Read Notes, Annotate and Advance Slides =

SLIDESHARK!  Per their website  “SlideShark is the leading app for viewing and sharing PowerPoint® content on the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. With SlideShark, mobile users can easily view and present PowerPoint slides the way they were meant to be seen—with animations, fonts, colors, graphics, hyperlinks and videos intact.”

By using the broadcast feature to the computer in the classroom you can control your presentation via your IPad – see your slide notes, timers, animation counter and next/previous slides.  Go to the app store to download and stop by me office for a demo!

Kudos to Christine Lysaght from PT for bringing this neat feature to my attention!

Android users I have not found a similar app, any suggestions?

Did you know? Just a couple of PPT Hints!

Using Hyperlinks in PowerPoint

When adding a hyperlink to a presentation, be careful that the target of the hyperlink is available. If you are giving the presentation offsite using a laptop, all the targets need to be on the laptop as well, unless your laptop is actively connected to the Internet. A good alternative is to copy Web site documents you think you will need to your laptop and hyperlink to those documents. The advantage is that you don’t have to depend on getting a good connection to the Internet at your offsite location

Ready to Use

Not your test in Blackboard but your student’s ability to access information on their computer while taking a test.  Lockdown browsers when run on a computer prevents the student from printing, copying, screen capturing a test.  Students are also unable to navigate to other locations within their Course Management System or on the Internet.  Respondus LockDown browser will be available on your Blackboard site via Course Tools.  Contact OET if you would like to see a demo of this lockdown systems.

Just a little tip . . .

You have moved up in the technological world and now have two monitors.  So now you want to compare two word documents, two powerpoint presentations or two excel files but they still open in the same window.  In order to have multiple windows open of an application you must open the application the long route (not via your desktop shortcut) so you must click on Start, All Programs, Microsoft Office and then the application you want to open, Word, Excel, etc.  Open your file and then repeat these steps to open another file, they will each open in their own windows for easy side by side comparison.

(Yes there is the option to View, arrange all but this can get complicated if  you are using both your monitors.)

Oops! I forgot!

Three words you hate to hear and even more so hate to have to say.  And yes you might think I forgot to send our weekly Wednesday blog yesterday but I did not forget I just had not completed writing it due to the many items that popped up on my Outlook calendar yesterday.

Outlook Calendar!  Where would I be or what would I be doing if I did not have those handy reminders nagging me!  What a great tool you can use it for setting up meetings,  daily, weekly or monthly reminders.  Read more
