Month: October 2022

Greetings, CAHS!

I believe, with the onset of an unanticipated pandemic we as a University have been pushed into becoming even more advanced in our Technology knowledge.  Technology has the potential to revolutionize the traditional teaching and learning process.  Students no longer have to meet in the same place at the same time to learn together from an instructor.  Even within our very own University, ECU has experimented with technological advances such as migrating from Blackboard to Canvas, implementing Banner, recent advances with our lecture recording software, and so much more.  Take a look at some of the new Tech Trends for 2022 in the article below.  Are there any Technology tools/software that you are currently using that you feel our faculty and/or staff here at CAHS could benefit from?  If so, please do share them with me.  I love exploring. Happy learning!

ITCS Notification – Security Alert (Please read)

In response to the deteriorating security situation in Ukraine, the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) has published an advisory for organizations to be on high alert for cyber attacks. While ITCS has taken steps to protect our IT infrastructure, users play a critical role in protecting the university.

ITCS has provided the following guidance on steps you can take to help protect ECU.

Spring Break 2022

Greetings CAHS,

Spring break is approaching March 6th – March 13th.  If you’re excited for the downtime, you should be. ?  Each of you have worked really hard thus far in the semester.  Please remember to contact my office via email if you are planning TO record during spring break.   Otherwise, the scheduled recording during the week of spring break will be deleted from the calendar to help free up unnecessary recording space.

During the upcoming spring break I always try to encourage everyone (if you can) to put the pen down and step away from the iPads and/or laptops and take a true break.  Check out a list of suggestions and then challenge yourself to actually cross off some of the to-do’s. ?

  1. Read a book or revamp your curriculum
  2. Plan nothing
  3. Sleep until noon  – if your body will allow it.. Unfortunately at my old age my body has a mind of its own now, so it will NOT. ?
  4. Bake a cake
  5. Catch up on life
  6. Go for a massage
  7. Organize yourself mentally
  8. Be like a tree sloth – we are always on the go-go-go! So now slow all the way down during Spring break to appreciate the little things.

P.S. During Spring Break most of the classrooms here at HSB will be available if you would like to test out how to better your recordings, perform audio testing, test out using the Smart Podium Pen etc.

Please stay safe and have an incredible day!

TikTok around the clock they say…..

CAHS is certainly cool enough for TikTok right?   Well according to recent trends, many Universities have jumped onto the TikTok bandwagon early, realizing that this might just be the way to engage students looking for a more “real” look at the school.  TikTok is one of the fastest growing social platform of the decade and has taken the world by storm.  Do you have a “hidden” interest to incorporate TikTok into your class and/or your department but not sure how to begin creating content?   If so, please let me know and I can start TikTok’ing with you and your department to provide some creative content. ?

In the meantime, feel free to take a look at ECU’s TikTok page by clicking  here and be sure to follow.  I am sure you will see some familiar faces from our very own CAHS in some of the videos.

iThink you should read this. New amazing OS!

macOS 12 Monterey update available February 7
Pirate Life

Look for the Apple icon in your Dock to install

Beginning Monday, February 7, Apple’s latest macOS 12 Monterey update will be available to install on ECU-owned computers. If you would like to upgrade and have verified that all of your equipment and software is compatible, you can install the update from the JAMF Self Service application in your Dock.  If you need assistance with this, just let me know.
If you do not see an Apple icon in the JAMF Self Service application, your mac may not be compatible with macOS 12 Monterey. Please submit a software support ticket with ITCS and a technician will contact you as soon as possible.
