Friendly reminder…

Greetings CAHS!

I wanted to send a friendly reminder to please remember to turn on your microphones during your lectures.  If we do not hear audio from your mic we will call the room you are in and let the phone ring 2 times which is a reminder for you to check that audio is on.  I want to ensure that the students are able to hear the recordings as they should.  Thanks so much for your understanding.  If you experience any audio issues, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Please stay safe and have an incredible day!

How to Start an Ad Hoc Remote Recording

Greetings CAHS!

This week’s Panopto update includes “How to Start an Ad Hoc Remote Recording”.  In the past, when a scheduled recording did not kick off as it should, you were able to manually start a recording from the Crestron device.   The same feature is available with Panopto.  If for some reason your scheduled recording does not start, please follow the linked instructions to manually start and stop your recording.  Please note, you will still need notify me of the manually started recording so that I can move it to the correct course folder once it has processed.

Click HERE to view Panopto instructions on How to Start an Ad Hoc Remote Recording.

Important Updates (!)

Greetings CAHS,

We are now into our 3rd day of recording in Panopto.  I will try not to bombard your emails with unnecessary Panopto updates (I promise) ?.  However there are some updates that I have to send to help us all in learning the new platform.  Please see below some of the pending updates.  As always, if you have specific questions, issues, or concerns please reach out to me.

  • How to know when your Panopto recording has started:

All Panopto recordings will begin automatically at the specified time that you listed on your Recording request form.   Once the recording has begun, you should see at the top of the Creston device RECORDING.  If that is not reflecting that means that your recording has not started, you can start the recording manually, please be sure to contact me so that I can move it to the appropriate class folder once the recording stops. If your class ends early and you stop the recording manually, the recording will begin processing at that time.

  • Processing time for recorded lectures:

Once your lecture has ended manually or automatically, your recording then goes through a processing phase.  During this time, students nor faculty are able to view the recording.  You should see the following while it is processing:

I have noticed that typically an hour and a half long recording, or roughly one class session takes about a half hour to 45 minutes to process and be viewable. Anything less than an hour will typically be available in under 20 minutes.  If the recording is longer than an hour and a half the processing time has been longer.  Once the recording has finished processing.  Your recording is automatically reflected in your Canvas course and is available for your students to view.

Please direct all students to me if they are having issues viewing any of your recordings.  Thanks everyone for your patience as we navigate the new world of Panopto.

Pending issues that are not yet resolved:

  • The ability to view live stream and live stream (webcast) audio issue on the live stream is still being investigated.  The work around is to have the student that is not in the classroom use Teams to view and listen in on the class.  Once I have more information I will update our College.

Please stay safe and have an incredible day!

FW: ECU Infosec IQ Security Awareness & Education Campaign (“Infosec IQ Notifications”) (!)

This email was sent on “high alert” so I wanted to make sure I pass on the important information to our college.  Please see below..

Cheers!

Subject: ECU Infosec IQ Security Awareness & Education Campaign (“Infosec IQ Notifications”)
Importance: High

Good morning ECU colleagues,

You’ve probably heard in the news various reports of organizations suffering the impacts of cyber attacks, including adverse effects such as data breach, compromise and damage to IT systems, and disruption of mission critical services. With new cyber security threats appearing constantly, all organizations, including ECU, must remain diligent, both IT support professionals, and every user of technology – individuals like you! You are part of our best line of defense to prevent hacks from occurring!

ECU has partnered with Infosec IQ to bring you a comprehensive security training program. We are utilizing a combination of phishing simulations and security awareness modules to empower employees to stay cyber secure. As part of this initiative, ITCS will be sending out short training videos from InfoSec IQ in response to phishing simulation done by the university. These videos are to help you spot real phishing emails and be aware of other important cyber security topics. The emails will be titled in your inbox as “Infosec IQ Notifications” and the contents will look very similar to what is shown below. When hovering over the “Start your training” button the link should start with https://securityiq.infosecinstitute.com/learner/course/.

The first rounds of Infosec IQ Notifications that will go out with brief training segments will be in response to prior simulated phishing campaign results. This training is mandatory. Thank you for your cooperation and support as we champion a culture of Pirate security awareness across campus.

GO PIRATES!

Mark

Activating Panopto Video in Canvas

Greetings CAHS,

Per ITCS if you are planning to use Panopto in Canvas for summer courses, the first step is to activate Panopto in Canvas.  Panopto allows instructors to manage the creation of course folders from within Canvas.

Once you activate Panopto in Canvas, your students are automatically granted access.  I have attached a video tutorial as well to aide in this process.  Please contact me if you have any issues or if you would like for me to perform this update for your course.

Canvas End of the semester Training Available starting 4/18/22

Greetings CAHS,

Woot! Woot! I have some exciting news!  I have teamed up with Matt Long from Learning Technologies Implementation & Support Technology to help us gear up to end the Spring semester strong.  Matt and I have put together a few End of the Semester Training sessions that I hope will be of interest and of great benefit to everyone.  These sessions are meant to cover the core features of the Gradebook, Assignments area and Quizzing engine (Classic Quizzes).   Each session will be 40 Min sessions with 10 min for Q/A if needed.  All sessions can be followed up with a one on one consultation if needed with myself or Matt Long. So hurry and block your calendars and plan to attend one of the following sessions below.  Registration is not required for these trainings, so feel free to use the links below and just pop in when you can.

Also, in years past some of you had to complete a DE training once a year, this can and will count towards that effort and I will provide a DE certification of completion. ?

Where oh where is my webex recording??

Greetings CAHS,

Where oh where is my webex recording??   Whether you want to record a Video conference meeting for someone who couldn’t attend, of if you just simply want to refer back to them later, or distribute as training material, there is such a convenience in having this capability to record meetings using our video conference app Webex.   The question I get most often is…. You guessed it!  Where is my Webex meeting recording?  And my answer to that is.. It depends… Check out my reasons why below..

  1. For users with a free Webex account, the only option available to record the meeting is locally, i.e. you can record it only on your computer.  Usually for Macs your recording is stored in your Home folder using Finder and for Windows the recording is accessible in your Documents folder in My Computer.  These are both default paths for local recordings, but you can also select a different path to save the recordings.  (Try to make a mental note if you decide to change your default save locations)
  1. For users with a premium Webex account, WE here at ECU have the capability to record both locally as well as the Webex cloud.  Within the cloud we will want to log onto our ECU Webex account by visiting ecu.webex.com .  The recordings are stored under the “My Recorded Meetings” section.

Also keep in mind that no matter what account type you have,  you can only record a meeting if you are the host, alternate host, or the presenter.  This also applies for distribution of the recording link, only the HOST/Cohost have that capability.

It can get very confusing to know where exactly to find your recordings, so hopefully this document will help.  (See attached)  I have included several links to learn more about all of the capabilities that Webex has to offer.  If you would like to perform a test recording or need any assistance with setting up a recording, please reach out too me.  I look forward to assisting you.

Please stay safe and have an incredible day!
